Letter from John Constable to Martin Cregan

In this letter from John Constable (1776–1837) to Martin Cregan (1788–1870), the celebrated English landscape artist apologises for his delay in responding to a letter from his friend as he has been sick. He goes on to discuss pictures he has sent to Cregan for inclusion in the Royal Hibernian Academy’s annual exhibition as well as works by other artists such as Turner and Landseer to be exhibited . Cregan, an Irish portrait painter, was President of the Academy at that time. The letter itself was folded to form the envelope, which was then closed with a wax seal.
