Photograph showing former Registrar and Acting Director of the National Gallery of Ireland, Walter George Strickland (1850–1928) , standing in the Gallery’s Milltown Wing. Strickland was a devoted employee of the Gallery as well as the author of ‘The Dictionary of Irish Artists’, first published in 1913. Sticklands dictionary includes biographies of Irish painters, engravers and sculptures and remains an important and widely used source today.
