Group Visits

The Gallery is a great place for a group visit. Whether it’s a primary or secondary school group, a group of art history students, a group of foreign students, a language school or simply a group of friends interested in finding out more about the National Collection, we can help you get the most from your experience.

All groups, guided or unguided, should book their visit in advance.  Gallery staff will be able to help plan your visit, advise on suitable times and check if requested works are on display. Visitors or groups who are planning to visit the Gallery to view paintings of special interest are advised to contact Visitor Services in advance to avoid disappointment.

Guided tours of the collection can be booked and tailor-made to the interests and needs of the group involved. Self-guided tours are permitted and the group can tour the Gallery at their own pace. Please note, if you are bringing a self-guided group to the Gallery, you are advised to make a booking. The gallery is very busy from April to September. Lecturing in the Gallery
If you wish to conduct a class seminar or give a short lecture in front of a painting as part of a self-guided visit please contact us in advance at . We will be able to help you plan your visit, check if the work you wish to study is on display and advise you on busy times to avoid. As a general guide, the Gallery is usually busy on weekday mornings during school term and on weekend afternoons, so lecture visits for these times should be scheduled several weeks in advance.
