Mollie Douthit
Life in lockdown Part IV; Laying on my kitchen floor with lavender eye mask to stave off a migraine, 2020
Oil on linen panel
Painting is a touchstone in Mollie’s life, and proved to be imperative for her mental health throughout the Covid-19 lockdowns. She wanted to paint the day she made this, but her focus was compromised with the onset of a migraine. While this migraine was manifesting, she also felt the familiar current of energy running through her, which can only be satiated by painting. When Mollie let her poor condition be the subject matter, she made peace with her circumstances and felt relief in being able to depict how she felt. Painting calmed her down so she could relax on the floor.
