‘My self-portrait is from a photograph I took of myself. I like the angle and the distorted shape. The oils I used belonged to my great uncle Ted who was an enthusiastic amateur painter. He died last year aged 99. I think he would be pleased to know that my painting is hanging in the National Gallery of Ireland.’
