Ian Maher
Self Portrait, 2019
Plaster and acrylic on canvas, 34 x 22 cm
‘This is a response to the work of Frank Auerbach and Leon Kossoff. I was initially drawn in by how in some works, it seemed, that their paintings were beginning to venture into the realm of sculpture. The strict borders of the canvas were crossed and mountains of paint rose up from a flattened surface. My final interpretation underwent constant change as I continued through the creative process.’
Ian Maher was born and lives in Dublin. He recently spent two years studying at Whitehall College, Dublin, where he acquired a multi-discipline skillset and received a distinction in Fine Art. This was highlighted in his final year exhibition, where Maher recorded sales in sculpture, painting, print, ceramic and mixed media. He has exhibited at the Origin Gallery, Dublin; Pearse Centre, Dublin; and Sculpture in Context, 2019, at the National Botanic Gardens, Dublin. He is now studying Ceramic & Glass at NCAD.
