Carey Clarke
Portrait of David Sommerville, 2020
Oil on canvas
This painting of the artist’s son-in-law, David Sommerville, was the last portrait that Carey painted of his close family. During their Christmas celebrations in 2019, he was reminded of the fact that he had celebrated everyone else in the family in paint except for David and this had to change. In January 2020, Carey began to paint a portrait of David in his studio. He captured the essence of his personality in the image. All of Carey’s family really like the portrait.
