Join hosts Blanca Valencia and Santina Kennedy for Plates & Palettes, an immersive culinary experience as we journey through time to explore the history of Irish food.
Ranging from the bustling yearly marketplace of Donnybrook Fair to the significant role of seaweed and potatoes in traditional Irish diets, we’ll look at three key paintings from the Irish Galleries: The Cock and Pot by Evie Hone, The Potato Diggers by Paul Henry and Carting Seaweed on Sutton Sands by Joseph Malachy Kavanagh.
Uncover how echoes of the past resonate in today’s culinary landscape. Witness the contemporary tapestry of Irish food culture, where the impact of Avoca’s displays of abundance, such as their iconic colossal meringues, intertwine with the symbolic fusion of cultures embodied in the spice bag.
Explore the vibrant and diverse culinary scene that defines modern Ireland through the artwork of Graham Nuttall at Avoca Powerscourt, Nicky Hooper’s Irish Modern Pantry, Orla Walsh’s pop art and Simone Walsh’s The Pantry and Rachel Corcoran’s illustrations at the Gallery's gift shop – all paired with artisan food and drink producers such as Black Castle, Kylemore and O’Hara’s.
Note: The menu is not suitable for vegans or vegetarians.
