Note on Introduction of the Official Languages (Amendment) Act 2021

March 2022

The Official Languages (Amendment) Act 2021 came into law in December 2021. It sets out new requirements as regards the delivery of our services in Irish, ends the system of Irish language schemes and establishes a system of language standards in its place.

As a consequence, no more Irish language schemes will be approved by the Minister or published by the Gallery.

The Gallery will continue to operate under its 3rd Irish Language Scheme until such time as the 2021 Act is commenced and the new rules apply.
