To celebrate Lavinia Fontana: Trailblazer, Rule Breaker, we have a wide range of guided tours on offer from May to August.

Each tour format is specifically tailored for its dedicated audience, allowing visitors to engage in a variety of ways. All public tours are fully accessible to people who are hard of hearing incorporating the use of a tour guide system with T-loop capabilities. All Gallery rooms are fully accessible via lift.

For Schools:

Dates and times: May and June // Monday | 11.30am - 12.30pm; Tuesday | 10am - 11am; Wednesday | 10am - 11am

Admission: Free. Booking required.

Bring your class for a guided tour to explore the exhibition. Please note that slots are limited and must be booked in advance via the Gallery’s website at this link. Due to capacity restrictions, we are sorry that we are unable to facilitate guided school visits to the exhibition outside of these times. You can book self-guided school visits via the Gallery’s website. All tours are fully accessible.

Lavinia Fontana’s life and career provide a myriad of entry points for research, engagement and discussion. As such the exhibition may be of interest to those studying in the fields of art history, art practice, material culture, Italian studies, women’s studies, conservation, fashion, design, social history and more. Booking required at least two weeks in advance. All tours are fully accessible.

For Irish Sign Language Users:

Date: Saturday 8 July at 1.30pm

Join us for a guided tour in ISL of Lavinia Fontana: Trailblazer, Rule Breaker. As the Gallery endeavours to make our activities and events accessible to the deaf community we wish to welcome members of the ISL community to the Gallery. Please note: This tour is delivered in Irish Sign Language only. No other translation will be available. All tours are fully accessible. Book via our website.

For Visitors with Visual Impairment: 

Date: Monday 10 July, 11.30am

Admission: Free. Booking required. 

Join Emilie Conway for a unique sensory experience exploring the work of Lavinia Fontana while surrounded by her masterpieces. Emilie will guide visitors through the exhibition on a tour incorporating audio description, tactile elements and her own practice as an artist and musician. Devised specifically to enrich the experience of visually impaired visitors to the Gallery. All tours are fully accessible. Book via our website.

For Private Groups:

Experience the exhibition with one of the Gallery’s highly trained Tour Guides and let their extensive knowledge and ability to engage and interpret enrich your visit. Tours must be booked two weeks in advance. All tours are fully accessible.

For Everyone! Public tours inspired by Lavinia Fontana:

Dates: Throughout July and August, Sundays at 1.30pm
Location: Merrion Square Information Desk
Admission: Free, no booking required.  

To support broader, accessible and inclusive public engagement with Lavinia Fontana, exhibition curator Dr Aoife Brady revisited the national collection to create a trail of masterpieces in the public galleries which relate to the artist, her time, her work, and key themes emerging from the exhibition. Public tours of this trail are delivered by our expert Gallery Guides and are devised to be enjoyed by visitors whether as a standalone experience or supporting a visit to the main exhibition. All public tours are fully accessible to people who are hard of hearing and use a tour guide system with T-loop capabilities. All tours are fully accessible.
