Open Call for Your Gallery at School Announced by the National Gallery of Ireland in Partnership with Schools Partner, SMBC Aviation Capital
The National Gallery of Ireland is excited to announce the return of Your Gallery at School, an educational initiative that brings the National Gallery to classrooms nationwide through art-making. All primary and post-primary schools across the country are invited to apply, to participate in the programme.
With the generous support of SMBC Aviation Capital, this year’s programme aims to collaborate with ten schools. The programme aims to create opportunities for young people to connect with their national collection through exciting art-making projects, designed to complement the education curriculum and ignite creativity. As a civic space, the National Gallery of Ireland seeks to promote a sense of shared ownership and foster a deep and lasting interest in our national collection. Your Gallery at School was developed to address a number of identified barriers to engagement with the National Gallery of Ireland, and in some cases, the arts more broadly. These include, but are not limited to, geographical, gender, and socio-economic barriers.
How it works
Selected schools will be paired with an artist from the Gallery’s Art Education Panel, who will travel to the school’s location to deliver the programme. In collaboration with teachers, the projects will be tailored to the specific needs of each group. The goal is to provide fun and engaging opportunities to learn through and about art, fostering connections with the National Gallery and the arts more broadly.
All projects will include:
- A virtual introduction session
- Art-making workshops at the school’s location (delivered over one week)
- Art materials
- Post-project opportunities
How to Apply
To learn more about the Your Gallery at School programme, and to apply, please visit www.nationalgallery.ie/explore-and-learn/schools/your-gallery-school. Applications open on 2 September 2024 and close at 5 p.m. on 30 September 2024.
Selected projects will take place either in November 2024 or Spring 2025. Schools will be informed of the outcome of their application in October.
Dr Caroline Campbell, Director of the National Gallery of Ireland, said: “Art has the power to spark creativity and broaden horizons, and with the Your Gallery at School initiative, we are bringing these possibilities to young people across Ireland. This programme is about making connections—between students and their national collection and between schools and creative spaces. We're incredibly grateful to SMBC Aviation Capital for their unwavering support”.
Peter Barrett, Chief Executive of SMBC Aviation Capital, added: “As the official Schools Partner of the National Gallery of Ireland, SMBC Aviation Capital is proud to see the Your Gallery at School initiative continue to bring art to children across Ireland who otherwise might not have the opportunity to engage with the Gallery. Since its pilot in 2020, we have seen first-hand the positive impact this project has had on the lives of young people in Ireland, and are pleased to see its continued success.”

Cuireann sé áthas ar Ghailearaí Náisiúnta na hÉireann a fhógairt go bhfuil Do Ghailearaí ar Scoil, tionscnamh oideachais a thugann an Gealaraí Náisiúnta chuig seomraí ranga ar fud na tíre trí ealaín a dhéanamh, ar ais linn arís. Tugtar cuireadh do gach bunscoil agus do gach iar-bhunscoil ar fud na tíre iarratas a dhéanamh ar pháirt a ghlacadh sa chlár.
Leis an tacaíocht fhlaithiúil á fháil ó SMBC Aviation Capital, tá sé mar aidhm ag clár na bliana seo dul i gcomhar le deich scoil. Sícuspóir an chláir ná deiseanna a chur ar fáil do dhaoine óga ceangal a dhéanamh lena mbailiúchán náisiúnta trí thionscadail spreagúla déantús na healaíne, atá dírithe ar chur lei curaclam an oideachais agus ar an gcruthaitheacht a mhuscailt. Mar réimse cathartha, iarrann Gailearaí Náisiúnta na hÉireann spiorad an chomhshealúchais roinnte a chur chun cinn agus suim dhomhain agus bhuan a chothú inár mbailiúchán náisiúnta. Rinneadh Do Ghailearaí ar Scoil a fhorbairt chun dul i ngleic le roinnt bacainní aitheanta ar dul i mbun le Gailearaí Náisiúnta na hÉireann agus, i gcásanna áirithe, leis na healaíona níos leithne. Áirítear orthu sin, ach ní ach amháin iad, bacainní geografacha, inscne agus socheacnamaíocha.
Conas a oibríonn sé
Déanfar na scoileanna roghnaithe a chur in éineacht le healaíontóir ó Phainéal Oideachas Ealaíne an Ghailearaí, a thaistealóidh chuig suíomh na scoile chun an clár a sheachadadh. I gcomhar leis na múinteoirí, cuirfear na tionscadail in oiriúint do riachtanais ar leith gach grúpa. Beidh mar sprioc lena leithéid ná deiseanna spraíúla tarraingteacha a chur ar fáil chun foghlaim trí mheán na n-ealaíon agus fúthu ag cothú na naisc leis an nGailearaí Náisiúnta agus leis na healaíona i gcoitinne.
Mar chuid de gach tionscadal, beidh:
- Réamhsheisiún fíorúil
- Ceardlanna ealaíne ar shuíomh na scoile (arna seachadadh thar seachtain amháin)
- Ábhair ealaíne
- Deiseanna iar-thionscadail

Dúirt an Dr Caroline Campbell, Stiúrthóir, Gailearaí Náisiúnta na hÉireann: “Tá sé ar chumas na healaíona an chruthaitheacht a mhúscailt agus an ábhair na spéise a leathnú agus, tríd an tionscnamh seo Do Ghailearaí ar Scoil, táimid ag cur na deiseanna seo os comhair daoine óga ar fud na hÉireann. Séard atá i gceist leis an gclár seo ná an ceangal a dhéanamh—idir an dalta agus a bhailiúchán náisiúnta agus idir an scoil agus spás na cruthaitheachta. Táimid thar a bheith buíoch de SMBC Aviation Capital as an tacaíocht gan staonadh atá á thabhairt acu dúinn”.
Dar le Peter Barrett, Príomhfheidhmannach SMBC Aviation Capital: “Mar Chomhpháirtí Oifigiúil Scoile Gailearaí Náisiúnta na hÉireann, baineann SMBC Aviation Capital an-bhród as an tionscnamh Do Ghailearaí ar Scoil ag leanúint leis na healaíona a thabhairt chuig leanaí ar fud na hÉireann nach mbeadh an deis acu dul i ngleic leis an nGailearaí munach sin. Ó cuireadh tús leis sa bhliain 2020, táimid tar éis tionchar an tionscadal seo ar shaol daoine óga in Éirinn a fheiceáil go díreach, agus cuireann sé an-áthas orainn go bhfuil ag éirí leis go leanúnach.”
