Minister Catherine Martin appoints three new members to the Board of Governors and Guardians of the National Gallery of Ireland

The Minister for of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, Catherine Martin TD, has announced three new appointments to the Board of Governors and Guardians of the National Gallery of Ireland:

Dr Ciarán O’Carroll
Ms Caroline Grant
Mr Terence McCrann
 
The three appointees will each serve a five-year term with effect from 16th April. 
 
Commenting on the appointments, Minister Martin said: “I am delighted to announce the appointments of these candidates with a diversity of experience which will support the operations and ambition of the National Gallery of Ireland for the coming five years.  I would like to congratulate all three appointees and thank them for taking on these important roles.  I wish them the very best during their terms.”

I am very happy that we are sharing the news of the appointment of Caroline Grant, Terence McCrann and Dr Ciarán O’Carroll to the Board of the Gallery. 2024 is the 170th anniversary of the establishment of the Gallery through the National Gallery of Ireland Act (1854) and the 160th anniversary of the opening of the Gallery. We also commence a new five-year strategic phase in 2024 and these appointments bring a breadth of experience, which will enable our important work.
 
The appointments follow a public call for applications on www.stateboards.ie and an assessment process.

Dr Ciarán O’Carroll is lecturer in sustainability with both Technological University Dublin and Dublin City University. He is a director and sustainability consultant with Change by Degrees, a community of leaders driving a global movement for an inclusive, equitable, and regenerative economy. Dr O’Carroll has advised multinational clients on sustainable development practices and governance, equipping organisations with strategies for green growth and risk management.
 
Ms Caroline Grant is a HR leader with career experience spanning a range of sectors. She brings excellence in relation to scaling growth businesses and leading organisation transformation to the Gallery Board. Ms Grant was part of the executive team at Fenergo Limited and was HR Director with Dell Limited in a period where the multinational company underwent major restructuring in Ireland and the UK. She is a certified member of the Institute of Directors.
 
Mr Terence McCrann has extensive experience in the area of legal, human resources and employee relations. As a retired partner with McCann Fitzgerald LLP and qualified solicitor with the Law Society, he has over 30 years’ experience in advising  Boards in the commercial and non-commercial State Sector on the exercise of their statutory powers, issues of corporate governance as well as interaction with parent Government Departments. Mr McCrann brings a vast expertise of best practices in HR and Employee Relations, including but not limited to the principles of equality, diversity and inclusion to the Board of the National Gallery.

Ag labhairt faoi na ceapacháin, dúirt an tAire Martin: “Tá an-áthas orm a fhógairt gur ceapadh na hiarrthóirí seo a bhfuil an-éagsúlacht taithí acu a thacóidh le hoibríochtaí agus uaillmhian Ghailearaí Náisiúnta na hÉireann do na cúig bliana atá romhainn. Déanaim comhghairdeas leis an triúr a ceapadh le linn a dtéarmaí agus gabhaim buíochas leo as glacadh leis na róil thábhachtacha seo. Guím gach rath orthu le linn a dtéarmaí.” 
 
Dúirt Mary Keane, Cathaoirleach Bhord Gobharnóirí agus Caomhnóirí GNÉ:  “Táimid thar a bheith sásta a fhógairt gur ceapadh Caroline Grant, Terence McCrann agus an Dr Ciarán O’Carroll ar Bhord an Ghailearaí. Déanfar comóradh in 2024 ar 170 bliain ó bunaíodh an Ghailearaí tríd an Acht um Ghailearaí Náisiúnta na hÉireann (1854) agus déanfar comóradh ar 160 bliain ó osclaíodh an Gailearaí. Cuirfimid tús freisin le céim straitéiseach cúig bliana nua in 2024 agus tá raon leathan taithí ag na daoine seo a ceapadh, rud a chumasóidh ár gcuid oibre tábhachtaí.”
