Beverley Healy
Sibling Travellers, 2024
Egg tempera, oil and acrylic on panel
"Sibling Travellers is a portrait of teenagers Zoe, Zach and Zara, who grew up in Zambia, where their family runs a children’s charity. They have recently relocated to Northern Ireland and are now growing up in a new culture. The main colours are those of the Zambian flag, and the patterns on the clothes were formed by printing a selection of locally collected nature - uniting the two cultures. The work combines media not commonly used together, on a special ground." - Beverly Healy
Beverley Healy’s work centres on people and the expression of light. She aims to affirm life and the value of each person, allowing us to share a glimpse of someone’s story. She has recently been experimenting with different media in combination. This has allowed the detail and luminosity of egg tempera to run alongside the simplicity of printmaking from nature and blocks of solid oil colour. She is captivated by light as something that is both visually beautiful and symbolic of revelation and hope.
