Egg tempera heavy paper mounted on wood
This portrait of the artist’s husband was created during the third lockdown of the Covid-19 pandemic. Liz wanted to portray the introspective nature of that time and the fragility of life as well as the strength of the individual. The medium of egg tempera allowed the artist to express the sensitivity of the subject through the slightly ethereal effect it produced. The intricate patterns of semi- transparent colour created both depth and a sense of intimacy.
