‘Sinéad O’Connor is an icon. Her music and work have come to define Irish culture and politics alike. When I met Sinéad, though, I knew I wanted to show the reality that lay behind the myth. Sinéad was kind and funny and very giving with her time. I think the portrait shows both her strength and vulnerability: the experiences of her life displayed on her face, framed by her cigarette and Hijab.’
