‘This self-portrait reimagines the well-known painting by William Orpen titled Self-Portrait with ‘Sowing New Seed’, of 1913. Sometimes a portrait can make you feel as though you understand the subject, even if only for a flash. Orpen’s expression in the original work caught my attention, and I used a detail from it as inspiration for exploring the idea of absorption in my studies.’
