A photographic portrait. A man sits on a stool in front of a yellow and grey wall, with paint peeling. He wears a black round neck jumper, and dark jeans. His hands look as if they are in motion.

This portrait of Andrew Hozier-Byrne was made at the Irish Tenement Museum, 14 Henrietta Street, Dublin, in an empty room, dating from the 1720s. The sole evidence of generations of previous occupants is the weathering and re-layering of paint on aged wall plaster. Elegant pastel shades have given way in time to more vibrant colours, attempting to make these spaces fresh once again.

Thompson notes, “A rich history of roots music, soul and blues imbues Hozier's writing. Through his work, it seems he too will leave a distinctive impression of our time on the space he occupies. Ageless challenges reappear and are reflected anew, imploring the listener to do so also.”
