Lizzie Downes
Inside, 2020
Archival photographic print
Describing this portrait, the artist explains that the subject, Finn, stepped spontaneously into a wardrobe, as if in a time travel game. Once inside the dark space he instinctively understood that he was in another period and played the part briefly before stepping back into the bright room. For Lizzie, Finn’s intense gaze and wary stance were emblematic of what many people were feeling as they emerged tentatively from their homes and their heads into the light of summer 2020.
