Sarah Doyle
Portrait of Uachtarán na hÉireann Michael D. Higgins, 2018
Photograph
This portrait was made in Dublin in late 2018 during the campaign for the President’s second term. Sarah had the idea for a quiet picture that would show a public figure in a reflective moment. She enjoys the contrast of the more formal portrait scene with the ‘in between’ moment - the President fixing his glasses. It feels human and tender. It made the artist think about how we all move through the world, making our adjustments as needed.
