Learn to paint 'en plein air' this summer at the National Gallery of Ireland.

The practice of painting 'en plein air' (painting outdoors) has become widely associated with the French Impressionist painters. This summer we are taking Inspiration from the work of the women impressionists such as Berthe Morisot and Eva Gonzalès - who we are celebrating in our current exhibition, Women Impressionists - and providing four facilitated workshops outdoors during July and August (weather permitting). Under expert guidance artist Dave West, participants will learn the plein air essentials and will have the opportunity to produce their own work!

  • These workshops are ticketed and must be booked in advance at the link above.
  • The sessions will take place on the front lawn of the National Gallery.
  • The painting medium that will used at these workshops will be oils.
  • Materials will be provided, but participants are welcome to bring their own if they wish.
  • Participants will be refunded in full if the session cannot proceed due to adverse weather.
