Kit French
Self-portrait - Light Through the Window, 2022
Oil on canvas | Unframed: 85 x 70 cm; Framed: 97 x 81 cm
‘With this portrait, I thought about everyday change: what light and time do to a subject. The picture was painted entirely from life and I returned to it each day, responding to small changes in nature, noting subtle shifts in light, value, hue and mood, all of which brought the portrait to its completion. My goal for my work is not to have a style, but rather to allow my intuition to react to my surroundings. With this approach, I hope to imbue each picture with honesty.’
