‘Influenced by Kerry James Marshall's Portrait of an Artist as a Shadow of His Former Self, my self-portrait explores the complexities of self-perception and the transformative artist’s journey. Presented as a triptych, the fragmented nature of identity is accentuated with the red and gold backdrop symbolising the ongoing process of introspection and realisation. Stripped of societal expectations, the artwork prompts viewers to confront their self-perceptions and question the constructs shaping our understanding of identity.’
