Cocoon, 2022

Oil on linen | Unframed: 200 x 140 cm; Framed: 203 x 143 cm

‘This painting, made in early 2022, is a reflection on changes that occurred over the previous two years, and explores themes of isolation and impatience. A contrasting sense of hope and optimism is conveyed by the illuminated depiction of the sitter, my partner, in warm light within a cold and uncertain landscape. She constructed a cocoon of comfort and familiarity during a time of discomfort and uncertainty in the hope that, through patience and resilience, a transformation from within would occur.’
